It supports sections and (lists of) values (strings, integers, floats, booleans or other sections), as well as some other features (such as single/double-quoted strings, environment variable expansion, functions and nested include statements). It makes it very easy to add configuration file capability to a program using a simple API. The goal of libConfuse is not to be the configuration file parser library with a gazillion of features. Instead, it aims to be easy to use and quick to integrate with your code. libConfuse was called libcfg before, but was changed to not confuse with other similar libraries.

DSPAM is an adaptive filter which means it is capable of learning and adapting to each user's email. libelf lets you read, modify or create ELF files in an architecture-independent way. The library takes care of size and endian issues. librsync is a free software library that implements the rsync remote-delta algorithm. This algorithm allows efficient remote updates of a file, without requiring the old and new versions to both be present at the sending end. The library uses a "streaming" design similar to that of zlib with the aim of allowing it to be embedded into many different applications. librsync is not wire-compatible with rsync 2.x, and is not likely to be in the future.

milter-greylist is a stand-alone milter written in C that implements the greylist filtering method, as proposed by Evan Harris. Grey listing works by assuming that, unlike legitimate MTA, spam engines will not retry sending their junk mail on a temporary error. The filter will always reject mail temporarily on a first attempt, then accept it after some time has elapsed. If spammers ever try to resend rejected messages, we can assume they will not stay idle between the two sends (if they do, the spam problem would just be solved). Odds are good that the spammer will send a mail to a honey pot address and get blacklisted in several real-time distributed black lists before the second attempt.

Snort is an open source network intrusion prevention system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. Snort uses a flexible rules language to describe traffic that it should collect or pass, as well as a detection engine that utilizes a modular plugin architecture. Snort has three primary uses. The more traditional traceroute(8) sends out either UDP or ICMP ECHO packets with a TTL of one, and increments the TTL until the destination has been reached. By printing the gateways that generate ICMP time exceeded messages along the way, it is able to determine the path packets are taking to reach the destination. The problem is that with the widespread use of firewalls on the modern Internet, many of the packets that traceroute(8) sends out end up being filtered, making it impossible to completely trace the path to the destination. However, in many cases, these firewalls will permit inbound TCP packets to specific ports that hosts sitting behind the firewall are listening for connections on. By sending out TCP SYN packets instead of UDP or ICMP ECHO packets, tcptraceroute is able to bypass the most common firewall filters.
